The French government are basically paying the rioters for rioting, things like

The moral .. riot and you will be rewarded.

The alternative would be to hand out guns to the population with laws that say you can shoot someone if they try to burn out your car. The likely result of that would be no more riots without any rioters actually being shot. (or at the very least, no more cars burned out).

Interesting BBC page ... it gives contributions as a fraction of income ... 0.5% or so of your pay cheque goes to the EU (EUR170 ish). So the question is, is it worth it :) ? In fact, it isn't actually that high .... does that include money from VAT etc ?

That's what confuses the statistics regarding the amount per capita, because we have the VAT system I'm pretty sure it only includes money from income tax and doesn't include the average money from VAT that also goes into the EU.

They are upset and frustrated...but does that give them the right to destroy property and injure innocent people (or even kill as an old guy was apparently killed).

I agree on this one, giving in to the rioters is just as bad as giving in to terrorists. And tbh, this isnt far from terrorism. When people are afraid to walk the street and their property is being destroyed I concider it to be an act of terrorism. Voilence almost never solve anything.

tbh

they must have been rioting for a good cause - most normal peeps wont riot unless theyve been pushed too far

but with most stuff- the message has been lost in the violence of the idiots who have joined in. I very much doubt the original rioters were causing such violence (or was there violence from day 1?)

They were rioting cos 2 guys ran away from the police after being caught while breaking in at a place...they fled into some place where they died cos of massive electricity and this made tons of youth's go on a stampede. Atleast thats how they expained it on BBC News...any french onionsalesmen here who care to explain more?
