"My Home Town" Thread

Post by Gandelf »

I invite forum users to post links to videos of their home towns. Here are my entries...

EDIT: Just in case you're wondering, "Oatcakes" are like a savoury pancake, similar in flavour to crumpets. You eat them warm, filled with things like bacon, cheese, sausage, tomatoes, mushrooms, baked beans... anything really. Bacon and cheese are my favourite. They are really "srummy".

Bath is really nice but it's hard to judge Bristol from Bath. I lived in Bristol until I was 13 and it really went downhill for a while not sure if it has improved as it was 11 years ago since I was there (well I've been to it since to see relatives but not much).

That said there isn't many UK cities I actually like so I'm fairly picky :p I like York, Bath, Bournemouth, Poole, Leeds and a few others but most cities in the UK really just don't seem that nice :/

Was going to say I can't believe they'd be more expensive than London and a quick search puts them at roughly the same prices. However, Bath seems to have more than it's fair share of 5 star hotels so is definitely more expensive in that respect, something which London seemingly lacks. I'm amazed Bath has so many expensive hotels but as I say it is a nice city with a lot of history so I can understand why.

Haven't they done something crazy like turned some of the old council buildings into flats or a hotel or something?

When I moved away I remember them doing a fair bit to the shopping area and it was looking pretty nice back then. It had really nice cycle tracks too, you could get anywhere on a bike from the outskirts all the way to the centre through to the other side pretty easily. The bits I didn't like were that crime rates were fairly high (worst in Europe for car crime for a little while but has lost that title now which is good) and the fact the city was beginning to sprawl like no tommorrow, all the old fields I messed around in and places I built tree houses are now massive Warehouses or housing estates which is a really sad sight. It was the Downend area I lived in, I don't know if you know it but if you do you'll probably know what I mean about the sprawl in that part of the city!
