Email on NTL

Missing Emails
Blocked or missing incoming emails
We have had a few reports of customers missing emails.

Why might this happen?
ISPs (Internet Service Providers) such as ntl implement spam filtering technologies to prevent you from being flooded with offensive, malicious and even damaging spam (unsolicited email). Such filters are very important in the fight against spam but there is a risk of legitimate email being blocked too.

Sometimes spammers operate in legitimate ISPs and this can then cause them to be blocked. Recently, Wanadoo/Freeserve, Yahoo! Mail and Hotmail have had various mail services appearing sporadically on blocklists that ntl use, and this has resulted in some mail being temporarily blocked by ntlworld.

How can you tell if your mail has been blocked?
If someone is trying to send you a legitimate message and it has been blocked, they might get an error message such as "Error 452" or "unable to deliver mail". More experienced users can check these blocklists by IP address at websites such as SORBS, Spamhaus and http://www.dnsstuff.com.

What are ntl doing to resolve this?
We are working with other major ISPs to minimise the risk of this happening. This could mean that we allow more spam than normal into our mail system.

What can you do if you suspect you have blocked mail?
We have further fine-tuned spam filters that you can configure yourself to deal with this problem. By default, these filters delete suspected spam before it reaches your mailbox, but you can find out how to change these options on our spam options help page.

Other possible problems sending or retrieving ntlworld email via Outlook Express
A possible cause of problems sending or retrieving ntlworld email via Outlook Express may be having a corrupt or very large message in your mailbox on ntl's server. Sometimes Outlook Express cannot download this message onto your PC, and this can prevent other messages being sent or received.

If you have trouble accessing your mailbox via Outlook Express an easy check to make is to log on to your mailbox directly on our server via webmail at http://www.ntlworld.com/webmail, using your username and password.

Check your inbox and delete any unusual messages that look they might be causing a problem. If you have a spam folder, you should also check and delete messages there, and finally delete any messages in your trash folder. Then try logging off and using Outlook Express to send and receive mail again.

If you are still having problems, lots more information, help and support tools can be found at http://www.ntlworld.com/email.
thought id let peeps know as apparently peeps have been trying to email me and i havent had the foggest nothing was getting through til they told me ;)
So if you have NTL might be worth doing the above and changing the spam filter :)
