What would GoonSwarm's motive be for taking CCP down though? Their response is cogent and does not seem like the ravings of madmen or game-destroyers, and yet the timing of the allegations was too clever to be an accident.

I think they had some circumstancial evidence in one of their member corps having a GM sign up to check some stuff at one of their player owned stations. When they heard about a member of ISD being kicked and banned, they added this to the list, then read a half-written document about all the RP events and then just swamped the community with the 'evidence'

People, myself included, are quick to jump on the anti-BoB bandwagon. I used to be up against them for months at a time and they really do bring it home at how huge they are

I understand all that, I read the whole history and an unheathily large portion of the posts on the eve forums. But CCP seem to be saying that this was not just a slightly OTT response to game events whereby an alliance was trying to expose and get a response tosome things that happened that they didn't like, but was actually a malicious attempt to destroy the game & the company. I just didn't understand why GS would want to do that - but then I think people sometimes do these things just for the joy of flexing their muscles.

one thing we have to be aware of in this situation Ambera is that BoB are really really the Borg. They viciously attack opponents on forums. They use exploits to get their way and they spy heavily on their opponents. Bob are plain nasty to fight and the problem is that right now Goonswarm are getting completely destropyed by Bob.

Now think back to a time when Pryd/excal was going through a heated debate on play style and abuse and look at what GOA did. Then I think we can start to understand the dynamics here.

This is about the company who control the in game experince acting to make some groups have a better experience than others. In other words the company is seen to be politically involved in the game. Most of what happened us was very very similar....

So its the perception that this is happening that is dangerous to Eve. GOA failed to recognise that and look what happened to Prydwen and excal.

and i'm not sure GS even knew what they were doing. They saw the forum-warriors of BoB and thought they could do even better, and the boss must have thought that they had them in the bag with all the evidence i suppose

I did read through the endless posts on this and most of it was made up on the fly. What was impressive was that they were able through spam to start a significant campaign. A pity they didn't have their stories set out properly to begin with.

The original letter has been dealt with but the issue is that they have slipped onto another set of problems. Its a case of the glass being half empty. At the end of the day should CCP cave in some way - assuming there is a way for this to happen? Or should they stick to their guns and not give into the forum whine?

I think CCP have to stick to their guns. Goonswarm are therefore in the unenviable position of having painted themselves into a corner where they cannot win...

CCP are as transparent as you could get in the MMO world, but it does lead to suspicion, as was the case here i think.

The fact that the company talks to the players is good, but it's also really bad and can cause some finger pointing due to the open channels of communication they have with the players. I'm pretty sure this whole thing was caused by some sore losing on the part of GoonSwarm.

But I'm glad they sorted it out, had a clean up in-house and then told everybody what has happened.

The only shame is that it takes 3 months to start a character else i'd give you all buddy keys so you could see for yourselves. EvE is a really good game. The PvP turns me into a dribbling mess all the time, not sure whether i'm coming or going lol, makes for some pretty mad times tho

the highlighted alone shows what kinda company CCP actually is..

as you say, it takes time, an awful time to get into the game but once u do and once you understand the basic dynamics its quite easy to just ride along.

one word of advice.. specialise for one ship you want and go with that for starters.. dont do my mistake and spec the basics too heavily, that leave you at 10mill and not skilled enough in gunnery to actually pvp!!! dammit

i will be pvping in 1-2 months, in a thorax lol
